Expertise on gender stereotypes in science

Associazione Donne e Scienza (Women and Science Association) was set up in 2003 in Italy by a group of Italian women scientists after more than 20 years of activity in the field of contemporary science. In order to share their expertise this national organization of over one hundred members meets on a regular basis and has organized several national conferences and courses on specific gender issues. Group members have held conferences in secondary schools and universities and taken part in international conferences. Activities are focused on mentoring young women, fostering their talents and heightening their awareness.

The ADS is one the founding members of the European platform of Women in Science (, financed by a EU project. The aim of the platform is to build an overarching EU network in order to foster issues related to women scientists and to extend expertise Europe-wide. 

Main tasks to be developed by Associazione Donne e Scienza in the Genis Lab Project:

  • coordinating and leading partner of a participatory process of identification of stereotypes on women and science within LAB2 – Organizational culture and stereotypes (in WP 3);
  • leading partner for a definition and implementation of self tailored action plans focused on stereotypes through a supply of questionnaires and training courses (in WP 4);
  • leading partner for the European Dissemination and Awareness campaign on gender stereotypes (in WP 6).
